Writing Block: After reading and discussing the article, you can return to it later for your writing block. Have children label a car using our skills page.

• Suggested books: How to Build LEGO Cars by Hannah Dolan

• Vocabulary Slideshow: (5 minutes) Race car, engine
• Video: Making a LEGO Car (5 minutes) Use this video to encourage children to make connections between their background knowledge and the article.

• Take a close look at the photo of the LEGO car. Ask children to share what they notice about it. Help them understand that we get information from pictures.
• Now let children know that labels point to part of the picture and tell us more about it. Have children find the labels and follow the arrows with their fingers. Read the labels together.
• Read the mini article aloud for more facts about the LEGO car.
• Finally, have a discussion about what children learned about the LEGO car from both the picture and the words in the article. What can they recall? What was most interesting?

Skills: Engineering (20 minutes)

• Guide children to build ramps using classroom materials (crayon boxes, pads of paper, rulers, blocks, etc.).
• Test out the ramps using a toy car or other rolling object. How can you make objects move faster or slower down the ramp?
• Have children draw their ramps and label them.
